Butterfly Lodge was built in 1913 and first occupied in 1914. The log cabin's name "Apuni Oyis" in Blackfeet was inspired by the countless butterflies in the meadows surrounding the cabin. It was built by John Butler for James W. Schultz as his hunting cabin, and later became the home of his son, Hart M. Schultz aka Lone Wolf.
The lodge housed two colorful careers, the father's fashioned in words, and the son's in painted images and sculptures of the West, both of which found inspiration from this little cabin and its surroundings. We invite you to walk through our site, enjoy reading the history of these two talented men, see pictures and check out our calendar of events!
